It has been awhile since I have been able to spend time working on the project. The last time I was able to find the time to work on things I tried to fix most of the major issues and get them committed into the master branch. I apologize for the time between updates over the past year or so. Over the next few weeks I will be working on addressing the major issues contained within the issue tracker and preparing a new v2.x release.
As for the development of new features, over the past couple evenings I have began working on a new version of the portal. A more up to date, user friendly, and more pleasing to the eye version which will be part of the upcoming v3.x release.
The new version of the portal is pretty much a total rewrite with the goal to make it more user and mobile device friendly. It will no longer frame the map supplied by the various dump1090 releases but instead use a map developed specifically for this project. The map will be the focal point of the portal allowing a clear view of the entire map within the browser when desired.
The following are screenshots of the new portal which is still in early development.
There are a few things which need to be added or completed before making an alpha quality release available to the public which include…
- Adjusting the aircraft pushpin headings to match the heading the aircraft is traveling.
- Change pushpin colors depending on the altitude of the aircraft being tracked.
- Adding a line representing the path the aircraft has flown.
- Finishing the design on info boxes containing information when a pushpin is clicked.
Along with the new portal I will be working on cleaning up the installation process as well. The initial alpha when released may not contain all the options currently available in v2.x but should contain the most popular installation options currently available. Over time as the scripting is cleaned up and the install process changed those options left out initially will be added so that all installation options existing in v2.x will once again exist in v3.x.
